World will miss the ‘i’ in the iPod, iPhone and the iPad !

October 7th, 2011 Abhilash No comments

Steve Jobs, the apple co-founder is no more.  The IT world has suddenly gone blank altogether with the absence of a legend who turned the rules of the IT business. Millions of fans of the iPod, iPhone and the iPad are suddenly missing the “i” in the iPod, iPhone and the iPad.  When Steve launched the iPad2 he was aware of the fact that he has very little time and the world too knew that he has gone weak. But nobody ever imagined such a scenario to come so soon. Apple , a company which drives quality beyond everything else is at a great loss.

Steve had also inspired millions of businessmen, techies, management students through his inspiration speeches like the one below which he gave in 2005 at the Stanford University.

A Speech from Steve Jobs which continues to inspire millions around the Globe.

What made Steve Jobs so special was his interest and energy in making products which are most user friendly. The focus was on the User Interface and thus the user of the product was put ahead of everything else. In the end the customers usually fell in love with the products, whether its the iPod , iPhone or the iPad or the Apple Macbook Air. Steve wanted every user to feel the “i” in the iPad, iPhone or the iPod and made a product which everybody would be proud to own.

Steve also had that magic to bring humor in his speeches by calling out the names of the competitors  and thus keeping the audience engaged. A great orator, thinker, innovator, management guru and a leader is no more.  Even though Steve is no more, the ‘i’ and his speeches will continue to inspire our future generations for hundreds of years. My condolences to Steve and his family members and the Apple team and fans.

Hashtags: Simple & Effective SEO Tool

March 27th, 2011 Abhilash 1 comment

Hashtags are an easy way of optimizing your URL for better SEO practices. Please understand that hashtags tend to present a keyword independent of the preceding or following keywords. As a result, URLs with Hashtags are being increasingly used by SEO experts, particularly those who want to highlight their URLs across social media networks.

Hashtags allow you to implement keywords without compromising the integrity of the URL. This is because hashtags appear like a part of the URL structure, resembling special characters that are often used in URLs of dynamic websites. In fact, this strategy is now being increasingly used in SEO marketing campaigns wherein customized keywords are created for short-term event promotion, i.e. instant or immediate optimization techniques.

This SEO trick is particularly useful when a blog title you have created doesn’t seem to include any of the universal or most competed keywords. Even in the field of using Twitter for online marketing, using hashtags help to highlight the presence of certain keywords in the tweets, instantly engaging the attention of fellow Twitter members. A good example of such as URL structure is http://URL.com# #animation#courses.

Ideal Keyword Density for your Content

March 25th, 2011 Abhilash No comments

Keyword density is among the most argued aspects of search engine optimization or SEO practices. Please understand that there are no clear guidelines regarding this issue since the most dependable of web publishers or search engine providers don’t clarify this issue as a part of their policy updates.

However, the leading webmasters and SEO specialists from around the world agree that Search Engines like Google prefer content that maintains a keyword density of around 2% or lesser. Though the keyword density can be exceeded to some extent, the practice of using the main keyword repeatedly can lead to the content being evaluated negatively by Google’s spiders, i.e. their indexing robots. This is because excessive use of keywords is referred to as keyword stuffing.

This refers to a black-hat SEO technique wherein keywords are used repeatedly without contributing to the quality of the content. One of the easiest ways to avoid this issue is to use multiple variations of the main keyword. This ensures that the keyword density is limited and every possible search term is engaged in the published content, directly raising chances of the content being indexed positively by Google. The best way is to write a content naturally and it would have around 2-4% of the keyword density of the important keywords.

Writing Page Titles for Good Optimization of Your Content

March 18th, 2011 Abhilash No comments

The niche of search engine optimization (SEO) is always evolving, putting forth new ideas that help to make the content more search engine friendly. This is vital since all web publishers want their web pages to be listed among the first, few results that are exhibited on the search engine results page (SERP). However, there are some basics in this niche that cannot be changed since they are considered critical and the core necessity of making any web page Google or Yahoo-friendly.

One such necessity is creating the correct page title. Please note that the page title is the small description like list of words that is present at the very top end of the web page. The page title should be created in such a manner that it combines some of the main keywords used in the content on that particular web page along with emphasizing the main theme of the section of which the web page forms a part.

However, the page title cannot be random collection of the most popular keywords. This is because keywords for every web page are listed as a part of Meta keywords that are created for every optimized web page. The page title should read like the main heading for the entire content listed on the web page and should not be identical to the headings or sub-headings used in this content.

Ideally, the page title should list a minimal number of keywords. Many SEO gurus state that the page title is like the identity of a web page, i.e. it defines the kind of content that is likely to be found on that web page and underlines the main theme of the website.

Competition for “SEO Latur” Keyword

October 14th, 2010 Abhilash 1 comment

Well at times, its the lack of competition which is more painful than having a stiff competition. An excellent example is this “SEO Latur” keyword on Google search. Being a city transforming into a corporation soon was expecting more competition.  Seems like Google is more than just happy for me :)

Google Instant – Doomed to Die

September 28th, 2010 Abhilash No comments

Google few weeks back introduced something like the Google Instant Search which would show up results in the form of “google suggest” as and when typed. When I first noticed it, I was like “wow” thats cool. Later within minutes, I got frustrated and tried to figure out how to turn it off. And soon a link appeared to turn it off on the right side of the search field. At last, what a relief to turn it off…

In fact, this is a classic example of Google’s attempt to experiment things at the cost of visitors which should not be repeated by any mature company. Being a google fan, I feel this feature was introduced before going through proper tests. In India where connection speeds vary a lot, this feature is a total mess. Google should pay attention to demographics, internet infrastructure and practical usability before introducing such features.

I have turned “google instant” off forever and will turn it on only after I start seeing good feedbacks after some improvements in the technology. I guess a lot of people might have turned the Google Instant feature off. In the way it is now , its Doomed to Die. Hope Google works into the feature and adopts some changes to make it usable.

Most preferred method:

By Email:   abhilashpillay@gmail.com

I prefer emails because you will get a much detailed response to your query and you will have a written record too and it becomes easier for me too for future reference. You can expect a reply to email well within 24 hours, sometimes as fast as couple of hours.

The problem with this method is that, sometimes I might not answer the phone if I am in middle of some coding and rarely call back. But in case if its something urgent leave a sms after you get a ‘no answer’ describing yourself and the query. I will call back.

Why SEO is dead?

July 24th, 2010 Abhilash No comments

SEO is officially dead !

If you are the one wholly dependent on the profession of SEO for a living, you will be out of business within next four years. The reason : SEO is dead and its only matter of time that people realise it.

Gone are the days when very few people knew about SEO and lot of them needed it. Now virtually every webmaster, every web designers knows the basics of SEO and there are no takers for any SEO product. Apart from this, the fact that now search engines use technologies like site speed and user preference ruin the SEO efforts. People get different search engine results on every PC depending on their preference.

A lot of companies and SEO firms switched from SEO to SMM ( Social Media Marketing) in an attempt to survive in business. But Social Media sites were created with a totally different purpose and these efforts will soon have no value too. The reason is quite simple: Social Media Sites are becoming targets of spams and will soon be categorized as link farms as was the case with directory submissions.

If SEO is officially dead how are the companies already in business still existing?

Only a handful of them will survive. Those companies which have large clients (big companies) and have changed SEO with other marketing methods with the changing times, and have provided value for the clients will survive.  What these clients need are visitors to their sites and not SEO. If you can provide that in the best possible way you can survive. The worst affected will be ’smart start-up companies’ and will mostly shut down business. Its a critical situation out there for those who are just starting a career out of SEO. If you are passionate about SEO, you can still make a living, but would require years of dedication, passion, hardwork and patience.

And yes, we are not shutting down :) we are very much in business and will stay on for years to come. We have adopted with the changing times and keep changing before the search engines change.

Why SEO is not working?

January 26th, 2010 Abhilash No comments

Why SEO is not working for many?

Search engines have changed and so is the method to SEO a site. Gone are the days when doing a handfull of Directory submission and Social bookmarking would make your site rank high on the search engine. Now its a lot more complicated thing than just that. Now search engines are very close to Artificial Intelligence and can pin point what is natural process of growth of a website. So any artificial attempt to high rank a site might just fall back and take your sites lower in ranking. Now the results are even influenced by Google Toolbar data, Google User history, and Google Analytics data in Google search , so the results you might be seeing might be different from the ones your friend sees.

So Does that mean SEO is dead?

Yes and No. Yes because the traditional techniques are not going to work in future like directory submission, article submission, social bookmarking etc. No because there is a more challenging way to do SEO now.

So whats the latest techniques for SEO?

SEO is done differently by different people. For some it may work and for some it may not. Everybody has a right to keep a secret in a profession and now as it has become more challenging as its a lot of work and research to find out the right technique.  Never ever expect somebody to give you the technique so easily. Especially a person who is providing SEO services will never let it out. And in todays context its much unimaginable. But for an hint: SEO is no longer just an offline technique…You have to flex every part of the site and marketing technique in the world.
