Google Instant – Doomed to Die

September 28th, 2010 Abhilash No comments

Google few weeks back introduced something like the Google Instant Search which would show up results in the form of “google suggest” as and when typed. When I first noticed it, I was like “wow” thats cool. Later within minutes, I got frustrated and tried to figure out how to turn it off. And soon a link appeared to turn it off on the right side of the search field. At last, what a relief to turn it off…

In fact, this is a classic example of Google’s attempt to experiment things at the cost of visitors which should not be repeated by any mature company. Being a google fan, I feel this feature was introduced before going through proper tests. In India where connection speeds vary a lot, this feature is a total mess. Google should pay attention to demographics, internet infrastructure and practical usability before introducing such features.

I have turned “google instant” off forever and will turn it on only after I start seeing good feedbacks after some improvements in the technology. I guess a lot of people might have turned the Google Instant feature off. In the way it is now , its Doomed to Die. Hope Google works into the feature and adopts some changes to make it usable.

GAO as a profession

January 18th, 2010 Abhilash No comments

I can surely foresee a time when GAO will be more popular as a profession rather than just a skill.

If you are still wondering what GAO stands for? is Google Adsense Optimization…

The skills to do so have gone so vast that nowadays webmasters are hiring an expert in the field to optimize adsense on their websites for better revenue. The scope is tremendous as the skills of such engineer affects the revenue of the site directly where adsense is the main source of revenue.

Having worked for years optimizing ads …I see GAO as challenging as SEO is… Which changes with time and its more challenging as like a SEO has little scope of using black hat methods..so is in GAO where you have to follow the google adsense guidelines…

Overall anybody who is looking for a nice profession 10 years from now… GAO looks like a promising option..

So start experimenting with the google ads on your site so you gain maximum exposure to whats works and what doesn’t…

Google’s future operating system

September 1st, 2009 Abhilash No comments

You might have already read the news of Google launching an operating system for netbooks may be in the next year called the Google Chrome operating system. Its already made official at the Google’s blog : http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2009/07/introducing-google-chrome-os.html

However many wonder whats next? Whether we will have an operating system on the lines of windows or mac from Google? In my personal view I would prefer something different, not a desktop operating system but an online operating system from Google. The OOS ;)

Wonder you have an operating system with a button start and menus like, Google doc excel, Google doc word, Google calender, Gmail, orkut, youtube, wave, chrome, blogger, picassa, an online anti-virus system which will keep centralised tracking of viruses found, and the list goes on..

In short you have an OOS ( online operating system) wherein, you don’t have to take a backup of your PC when you decide to format, bcos everything you do is already stored online with an option to share it or not to share it with others. And this would be what I would expect from Google, an OOS instead of an OS. An operating system for net users rather than desktop users. Imagine a situation where Google OOS has become so handy and popular that people without a net connection start to get connected for the benefit of using Google’s OOS.  So this might help increase internet penetration too.

Welcome to the world of Online Operating System – Google’s future operating system
